The declining global pollinator population places our global food supply and biodiversity at risk..
"If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos."
- Bees are under threat from multiple factors and although we know bees are dying out at a macro level, it is difficult to know what is happening at a local level in order to target recovery efforts.
- Automating the monitoring of pollinators for precision pollination and biodiversity monitoring is possible, but unfortunately in many cases it still relies on field inspections and clipboards and we think this needs to change.
- Governments and policymakers around the world recognise this problem and have national pollinator strategies in place to track changes in bee numbers and are now introducing new legislation for corporates to evidence their impact on nature and for farmers to reduce the use of pesticides whilst increasing food yields to meet a growing global population.
